Outdoor play in Winterhttp://min.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/school-news/17Outdoor play in Winter<p>​Both the Canadian Paediatric Society and the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) recommend minimum temperature limits for outdoor play. These organizations and the SCDSB recommend that <strong>children be kept indoors if the temperature falls below -25°C, or if the wind chill is -28°C or greater </strong>(Canadian Paediatric Society, 2009). Exposed skin will begin to freeze at -27°C.</p>
CUPE and ETFO reach tentative agreements; suspend work-to-rule actionshttp://min.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/board-news/41CUPE and ETFO reach tentative agreements; suspend work-to-rule actions<h2>ETFO</h2><p>The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) began provincial job action in the form of a work-to-rule campaign in May 2015.   <br></p><p><strong>On November 2, ETFO reached a tentative agreement at the central bargaining table with the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA). </strong> The tentative deal must be endorsed by ETFO's local leaders before it is presented to all ETFO members for ratification. ETFO has agreed to suspend central job action while ratification takes place. Terms of the tentative agreement have not yet been made public.</p><h2>CUPE</h2><p>The collective bargaining agreement between the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) expired on August 31, 2014. In the SCDSB, CUPE represents our custodial and maintenance staff. Since September 10, 2015, CUPE members have been engaged in provincial job action in the form of a work-to-rule campaign.   <br></p><p><strong>On November 2, CUPE reached a tentative agreement at the central bargaining table with the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA). </strong> The tentative deal must be endorsed by CUPE's local leaders before it is presented to all CUPE members for ratification. ‘Bus Tag’ program helps students get to and from school safelyhttp://min.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/board-news/18‘Bus Tag’ program helps students get to and from school safely<p>​</p><p>The Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium (SCSTC) launched the Bus Tag<strong> </strong>program this September.<strong> </strong>The Bus Tag program supports safety for JK/SK and other school-identified students by<strong> </strong>providing a process to match students to their assigned afternoon school bus and to also<strong> </strong>identify they must be met by a parent or guardian at their afternoon bus stop.</p><p>The program provides:</p><ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>a colour coded bus tag with the assigned p.m. route number to be attached to the student's backpack</li><li>a colour-coded route card with route number in the windows of the school bus that the Bus Tag is matched to</li></ul><p>The SCSTC and Bus Operators have policies and procedures that are used on all school vehicles to ensure students in JK/SK and other school identified students are met at their afternoon bus stop.  It's the parent/guardian's responsibility to meet Junior Kindergarten, Senior Kindergarten and other identified students at the bus stop .The Bus Tag program has been established to assist both the schools and school bus drivers to load these students on the correct afternoon bus and identify they are to be met at their bus stop by a parent/guardian.
